Scott Slater
Rhode Island House of Representatives
Scott A. Slater (D) has served the people of Providence in District 10 since winning a special election in November 2009 to fill the seat after the passing of his father, Thomas Slater. He is a Deputy Majority Leader. Representative Slater is the first vice chair of the House Finance Committee and chairs that committee's Education Subcommittee.
Representative Slater helped to craft the current state budget, which included funding to help Rhode Islanders who lost federal support or became ineligible for Medicaid because of federal cuts, as well as Medicaid rate increases to help expand access to care. The budget also increased state education aid, directing more school funding to students in struggling communities, and adding support for local school transportation, special needs students, and multilingual education.
Aside from his legislative duties, he works as a budget analyst for the City of Providence. He earned a bachelor's degree at Bryant University. He is married to Bianca Rodriguez and they have two daughters, Mia and Madeline.
